CURRENTLY:
I work as the Motion Control Supervisor at the Garage Rentals.
IN THE PAST:
I worked as a DIT, and freelance motion control operator. I worked with Steve Giralt (founder of The Garage) as his first call tech, working on a wide range of projects including traditional still photography, high-speed video, and programming robots to do fun and interesting things with cameras and food. I did similar work with other directors, photographers and production companies as well.
My technical expertise and enthusiasm for learning have led to some unique opportunities.
I’ve worked as a Digital Tech with many talented photographers, both in studio and on location, with just about every kind of camera and lighting system you can think of. If I haven‘t worked with it before, I can probably figure it out pretty quickly. And most importantly – I‘m very good at improvising solutions to problems that come up when you least expect them.
I have an ongoing relationship with the Major Events production team at Getty Images, where I do technical work with their talented photographers and editors at award shows and political events, making sure that their photos make it up onto their site in almost real-time.
I’ve co-hosted and produced a few podcasts (mostly related to tech stuff and photography).
I’ve also shot portraits of pets, interior design. and a books (see below).
I have an ongoing relationship with Thames & Hudson, and my work has been featured in several of their books including Verve: the Sound of America , Blue Note: Uncompromising Expression, Motown, Sinatra 100, the Jacksons, Death, and Supreme Glamour.
I worked with Control Group (where I was employed as a Systems Analyst in the past) on the development and deployment of Royal Caribbean‘s Virtual Balcony system, using Red cameras and customized hardware and software.
I managed the equipment room at DTouch NYC for about two years, catering to the high-end fashion world and maintaining an array of digital capture systems and computers. This job was also a great opportunity to learn where to find just about anything photo-related in the city.
I‘ve worked as an IT guy for several different companies including Control Group, Apple, and the Leo Burnett company in Chicago. I also worked for myself as an Apple Certified Consultant for several years, doing all sorts of interesting work with creative professionals in the Chicagoland area.
I worked for a video game company (now owned by Microsoft & Bungie), at first as a play-tester, and later in their graphics and marketing department.
I‘ve also spent a lot of time in recording studios, both as an audio engineer and as a musician (I play the drums). Many of my recordings can be found in the iTunes music store and on Spotify.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I met and collaborated with some of the most talented artists I know.
